Aardappelwratziekte, veroorzaakt door Synchytrium endobioticum, is een gevreesde quarantaine ziekte. Resistente rassen zijn essentieel voor beheersing. Er is dringend behoefte aan nieuwe resistenties omdat recent beschikbare resistenties zijn doorbroken. Door innovaties maken we een overzicht van resistentiegenen en hun match met S. endobioticum populaties. Daarnaast zullen we nieuwe, breedspectrumresistenties identificeren in kruisbare Solanum-soorten op basis van geconserveerde Avr-effectoren.

There is a need for potato varieties with robust wart resistance and for the breeding tools to generate them, to manage potato wart resistance in Europe and Canada.

This project aims to deliver:
1. a comprehensive overview of resistances to potato wart disease in the current gene pool of potato varieties and breeding material
2. matching information on the global population structure and selective sweeps of the pathogen S. endobioticum
3. haplotype markers for resistance breeding and
4. new sources of resistance derived from crossable Solanum species
