Circular Acid Tolerant Novel Ingredients for biodegradable Products (CATNIP)
Samenvatting project
There is a need to develop sustainable technologies to convert agricultural side streams into circular non-food applications. This project aims to develop novel green modification methods for, using safe modifying agents. This will generate novel renewable products suitable for applications such as pulp and paper making and home & personal care products, while ensuring that the products have the required biodegradability at their end-of-life, preventing environmental persistence.

Motivatie
CATNIP enables WFBR to develop a sustainable method for achieving more acid tolerant polysaccharide via an innovative and green path. The product stability and functionality of the modified polysaccharides is investigated during the production, storage and use. Furthermore, sufficient (bio)degradation at the end-of life is assessed to prevent environmental accumulation.
Geplande resultaten
Proof of concept that the green and sustainable predicted pathway for carbohydrate modification with the intended properties is viable. Regular progress meetings per year and multiple separate 1:1 meeting with partners are planned per year. The reports for each meeting is shared with all partners.
