The G-FORCE project brings together universities, healthcare experts, and food industry partners in a strong public-private collaboration to better understand how modern weight-loss treatments and everyday foods influence what and how we eat. By combining scientific insights with practical expertise, this partnership aims to develop innovative dietary strategies that support healthier lifestyles and long-term wellbeing.
Overweight and obesity affect a large share of adults and increase the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. New weight-loss medications are rapidly gaining popularity and can lead to substantial weight loss, but their broader impact on eating habits and diet quality remains unclear. At the same time, there is a growing need to identify natural foods and ingredients that help people feel full and satisfied. Such strategies may not only support weight loss, but also help prevent weight regain after stopping medication.
G-FORCE studies how obesity medication influence appetite, food preferences, and overall diet, with special attention to the balance between plant-based and animal-based foods. In parallel, the project investigates how natural foods and ingredients can stimulate the body’s own appetite-regulating signals. This is achieved through a combination of large-scale population data, laboratory experiments, and human studies, offering a unique and comprehensive approach.
The project will deliver new insights into eating behaviour, practical dietary guidelines, and recommendations for designing food products that better support appetite control and healthy weight management. These results will help healthcare professionals, industry, and consumers make informed choices, contributing to the prevention of obesity and related diseases.
