Samenvatting project
Infection of tomato and pepper by powdery mildew fungal species has increasingly become an important issue because of the restrictions on the use of antifungal chemicals. Because of the limitations on the use of chemicals to control the disease, host resistance is becoming even moren important than before to maintain helathy high-yielding crops.
Doel van het project
To clone some of the OI-genes, study the resistance mechanisms, and devise a strategy to combine genes in advanced tomato lines
Motivatie
New robust cultivars combining multiple disease resistance genes allowing redusing of the use of fungicides
Geplande resultaten
To explore the valuable resources to map, clone and introgress resistance loci into cultivated pepper
